NAMHO
Position: Painter (Residential, Commercial, and Industrial)
Dates: July 2009 – Oct. 2010
NAMHO is a painting company that provided painting services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. A fairly large percentage of our work was in the industrial sector, and it is that work in particular which greatly makes this employment pertinent to Manufacturing Engineering.
Not only did painting in manufacturing environments give me visibility into how various products were manufactured, but we often had to come up with unique solutions to conduct our work without negatively impacting operations for our clients (e.g., using a dry ice blaster to remove fiberglass manufacturing residue from a corrugated steel ceiling to prep for painting, as the water from often utilized pressure washing would contaminate their product). We also often had to use industrial coatings (e.g., two-part epoxy paints) instead of normal paints, which increased my knowledge of needs which must be met for various industrial facilities to be maintained and functioning properly.
