B.S. in Business Management
School: Grand Canyon University
The Business Management program at Grand Canyon University is a pretty straightforward business program. It explores all of the areas of business you would expect a business degree to cover; such as people management, leadership, accounting, marketing, business statistics, and more.
One of the things that set this program apart from many other business programs was the empahsis placed on the concept of Servant Leadership. The crux of servant leadership is breaking down barriers to help ensure people have the necessary resources and environment for success. Succinctly put, it is about leading by focusing on what you can do for others instead of what they can do for you. By helping others in your business succeed, you succeed.
This degree really helped me to broaden my understanding of the many factors involved in maintaining a successful organization. Businesses are complex systems, and like all systems they need to be properly maintained. That maintenance includes the continuous improvement of all aspects of the organization (e.g., improving manufacturing processes to reduce costs and/or improved product offerings, for increased customer satisfaction).
